Asmodee Digital and Fantasy Flight Interactive have launched the official digital adaptation of The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game on PC and Mac (Steam) for $19.99.

The digital card game is designed for single player as well as co-op for up to two players. Players build their own fellowship of three heroes from famous characters from the Lord of the Rings series, battle monsters, and complete quests. The core game includes the following heroes: Aragorn, Arwen, Gimli, Tom Took, Dwalin, Eowyn, Faramir, and Legolas.

From a lengthy stint in Early Access, the card game has received an updated UI, better tutorial, and improved gameplay. Anyone who played the Early Access version will receive the digital soundtrack for free as a reward.

The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game is based on Fantasy Flight’s living card game, The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, which originally released in 2011. Living card games are a twist on collectible card games like Magic: the Gathering. While you still buy additional booster packs to supplement your decks, in a living card game you buy specific card packs rather than random booster packs, making it far less of a money sink.

To celebrate the game’s launch, the first available DLC, The Shadow’s Fall, is 50% off through September 9. The Shadow’s Fall adds four new heroes and five new quests in an all new campaign. Expect many more DLC expansions to come.

The Lord of the Rings: Adventure Card Game is rated E10+.
