Dragon Quest Builders 2 is launching July 12 for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. PlayStation owners can play an early slice of the sequel starting today by downloading the free demo on the PlayStation Store.

The demo showcases the opening areas of the game, including the tutorial and the Isle of Awakening. You’ll be able to choose between a girl or boy character and customize their look. The demo will showcase building, combat, questing, interacting with NPCs, and tease out the new story and characters.

The first game released in 2016 (2018 on Switch) as a mashup of Minecraft-style building and crafting within the colorful Dragon Quest RPG universe. The hero fights monsters, explores lands, and gathers materials to build up a safe haven and attract allies. Dragon Quest Builders was a critical and commercial success.

The sequel hopes to build upon the first game by introducing four player local and online co-op multiplayer, and expanding the world to include flight and underwater travel. A lengthy trailer released earlier this month (above) reveals gameplay details.

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is rated E10+ with Alcohol, Comic Mischief, Fantasy Violence, Mild Blood, Mild Language, and Suggestive Themes. It’s out July 12 on PlayStation 4 and Switch.
