If you like to try before you buy, Shadow of the Tomb Raider now has a free trial. Square Enix made the announcement alongside a new trailer (above).

The demo includes the beginning sequence of the game. It begins with Lara and friend Jonah in Mexico during The Day of the Dead celebration. The pair must stay a step ahead of Trinity as they dive into a hidden tomb. The demo is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Like most modern day demos, your progress is saved should you want to purchase the full game and pick right back up.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the third game in the rebooted Tomb Raider trilogy by Crystal Dynamics that began in 2013. The series stars a younger Lara Croft at the beginning of her tomb raiding career. Shadow of the Tomb Raider puts her in a dangerous jungle full of tombs and bad guys as she works to prevent the Mayan apocalypse that she accidentally sets in motion.

All three games in the trilogy have been well received by critics and fans, with the third game being the least critically acclaimed.

Recently Shadow of the Tomb Raider welcomed its first DLC, The Forge. The Forge adds a new challenge tomb that’s also playable in co-op. It’s the first of seven planned DLC adventures that will release each month. It’s available separately for $4.99 or as part of the Season Pass ($29.99).

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is rated M for Mature.
