The mantra at Pokémon GO must be Better Late than Never. It’s taken awhile to get many features added to the popular AR app over the years, including the full roster of Pokémon. We’re still not quite there yet but this week brings us one step closer. Generation 4 Pokémon, that’s the Diamond/Pearl/Platinum generation, have started arriving in Pokémon GO this week.

Gen 4 Pokémon, as with previous generations, are being added in waves over the next few weeks. This gives players a better chance of catching each wave’s new additions. The exact list of the first wave is still being compiled via various Pokémon GO websites and users, but the initial number is hovering around 25, including all three starter Pokémon: Turtwig, Chimchar, and Piplup, as well as their evolutions.

The new Pokémon can also be hatched from eggs in addition to found in the wild and in Raid battles.

Like previous generations, Gen 4 appears to include region-specific Pokémon. These are Pokémon that you can only find in certain countries. So far there are three region-locked Pokémon from Gen 4: Chatot (South America, Australia), Carnivine (Southeastern US), and Pachirisu (Canada, Alaska, Russia).

Thankfully since Pokémon GO finally added trading earlier this year, making acquiring rare Pokémon much more doable.

Pokémon GO is available on iOS and Android. Pokémon Let’s Go, Eevee! and Let’s Go, Pikachu! sync up with Pokémon GO, and are launching on Nintendo Switch on November 16.
