Electronic Arts is at Gamescom 2017 this week. Their press conference expanded on games they showed earlier this year at E3, such as Need for Speed Payback, Star Wars Battlefront 2, and the EA Originals title, Fe.
Need for Speed Payback
Once again EA insisted on revealing fancy real-world cars on stage to help promote Need for Speed Payback. At Gamescom it was the BMW M5.
“The new BMW M5 is a stunning car,” said Marcus Nilsson, Executive Producer at Ghost Games. “With immense power combined with gorgeous design, our players are going to love getting behind the wheel of the new M5. Whether it’s pulling off intense heist missions, or outrunning cops in epic pursuits or just cruising the open world, this car embodies performance, speed and desire, making it one of the pinnacle rides in Need for Speed Payback.”
An annoying chunk of time was spent fawning over how great the new M5 is, despite this being a video game trade show and not an automotive show. EA did show a spiffy new cinematic trailer, which you can watch above.

The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs
Pets are finally coming to The Sims 4. The Cast & Dogs expansion is coming to PC and Mac. It will feature multiple cat and dog breeds to adopt, as well as the Create A Pet tool to design your own and mix multiple breeds. Special pet-only outfits and accessories will also be available.
“The Sims 4 Cats & Dogs offers fans some of the cutest, most charming pets ever seen in The Sims. From dogs and cats to puppies and kittens, the new tools for customizing pets are so flexible and powerful, players can really create anything they can imagine,” said Lyndsay Pearson, Executive Producer, . “We know how much our community values four-legged friends as part of their families and I am thrilled at what the team has been able to bring to life.”
The Cats & Dogs expansion will add the new veterinarian business and a new coastal world called Brindleton Bay. Brindleton Bay includes several pet-friendly locations, such as the beach, docks, lighthouse, and parks with obstacle courses.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 Starfighter Assault
The new trailer showed off our first look at space battles in Star Wars Battlefront 2, called Starfighter Assault. Maps shown include the Death Star Debris around Endor, Imperial Shipyard at Fondor, and the research outpost at Kamino. There are no story restrictions for pilots, as we see characters like Darth Maul and Yoda in dogfights. Like the ground battles, Starfighter Assault will include ships and characters from all three eras of Star Wars (prequel, original trilogy, and modern).
Like at E3, Star Wars Battlefront 2 was given an entire 24-minute gameplay presentation. It took up a sizable portion of EA’s press conference. You can see the full match in the EA Live at Gamescom 2017 video at the top, starting around the 34-minute mark.
