Ni no Kuni II is the sequel to 2013’s Ni no Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch for PlayStation 3. The JRPG was praised for its writing, characters, and beautiful animation; the cutscenes were produced by beloved Japanese animated Studio Ghibli.

The sequel takes place hundreds of years after the first game, in a world made up of humans as well as anthropomorphized cats and mice. It stars Evan, a young prince who is recently deposed and must rebuild his kingdom. The sequel will not be involved with Studio Ghibli but will aim to fulfill the same style and animation the first game was praised for.

Ni no Kuni II was originally announced in 2015 and was recently delayed to early next year. Developer Level-5’s CEO Akihiro Hino posted a video announcing the delay last month.

The sequel has not yet been rated, but the first game squeaked by with an E for Everyone with a number of content descriptors. Ni no Kuni II: Revenant Kingdom is due out January 19, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and PC.
