There are several high-profile game publishers and developers who can afford to take as much time as they need to release their next tent-pole title. Rockstar Games is definitely one of them. This week they announced that the extremely highly anticipated open-world action-adventure sequel Red Dead Redemption 2 will be arriving Spring 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Red Dead Redemption 2 was originally teased, then announced late last year with a fall 2017 release date. But anyone familiar with the scope of Rockstar’s titles, such as Grand Theft Auto, knew that was a pipe dream.
“We are very sorry for any disappointment this delay causes,” states the press release. “But we are firm believers in delivering a game only when it is ready. We are really excited to bring you more details about the game this summer.”
Red Dead Redemption 2 will be Rockstar Games’ first title to be built entirely within the current generation of hardware.
The first game (a pseudo-sequel to 2004’s Red Dead Revolver) launched in 2010 to critical and commercial acclaim. It is consistently ranked as one of the greatest video games of all time. It sold millions, though a drop in the bucket compared to big brother GTA. It was never remastered nor ported to PC.
Rockstar’s most recent game, Grand Theft Auto V continues to be a best seller. It originally launched in 2013 on the last generation of consoles. It launched the following year for PS4 and Xbox One, then came to PC in 2015.

Like all of Rockstar Games’ titles, Red Dead Redemption 2 will undoubtedly be rated M for Mature. The sequel should arrive Spring 2018 for PS4 and Xbox One, with additional details this summer.
