Star Wars Battlefront was released last year as a multiplayer only experience. Many gamers, myself included, were a bit confused about the lack of a single-player campaign. It turns out timing was everything. The game had to be released before the Force Awakens film, and there simply wasn’t enough time.According to GameSpot, Patrick Soderlund, head of EA Studios, talked about the game at a recent investor meeting. Soderlund said he was disappointed by the game’s critical reception, but still thinks the final product was a great game.

“It was conscious decision we made due to time and being able to launch the game side-by-side with the movie that came out to get the strongest possible impact,” he explained according to GameSpot. “I think the team created a really good game based on the premise that we had. I would say the game has done very well for us and reached a very different demographic than a traditional EA game. So from that perspective, it’s a success.”

While not stating anything outright, Soderlund commented that a single-player campaign would most likely be added in a future Battlefront game. “In a world where we want $60 up front and we expect people to stay with us over the course of a long time, the depth of what we offer is important,” he said. “We have to go back and course correct that for another version if we were ever to build one.”

Despite Soderlund’s unwillingness to confirm anything, EA CFO Blake Jorgenson said a new game is definitely in development.
