The mid-season update to League of Legends will be making a number of changes to the mage class of characters, including the addition of new items. The update will also see an overhaul of dragons with the introduction of elemental variations on the beast.

A post on the League of Legends official site says, “As we witness the best teams in the world duke it out for international fame and fortune, the mid-season intermission that follows is about all of us taking a deep breath and reflecting on how far we’ve come and how far we have to go.”

Some of the characters that are seeing changes are Malzahar, Brand, Vladimir, Zyra, Vel’Koz and Cassiopeia. Zyra and Malzahar are getting new passive abilities, while the other mages are seeing changes to their current attacks.

According to Riot, the mages have been in need of an update for some time.

“Mages are one of League’s most established classes but, over the years, their strategic identities have become muddied and their gameplay hasn’t kept up with evolving standards.”

Another change coming with the mid-season update is the addition of more than 10 new items. Elemental dragons will also be making their debut in this update, with different dragons spawning at different times in the game.
