Nintendo took to the straight-to-fan video world on March 3. This Nintendo Direct was packed full of details on a multitude of games, many of which are coming out in the next month. Here’s a list of everything they talked about and the release dates for those games.


Virtual Console Update
New 3DS
Release Date: Certain titles available now, with more following in March and April

This update will feature a variety of popular Super Nintendo games that can be played in their native resolution.

Splatoon General Update
Wii U
Release Date: March 8

This update adds in new gear and Splatfests and improves the matchmaking for online play.

Super Mario Maker Update

Release Date: March 9

This update adds in keys and key doors, as well as a skewer.

Fire Emblem Fates Revelation
Release Date: March 10

This is the first in series of downloadable content in the works for Fire Emblem Fates.

Pokken Tournament
Wii U
Release Date: March 18

Pokken Tournament is a 3D fighting game featuring a variety of Pokemon characters. Rather than the traditional turn-based fighting of Pokemon games, this game requires fast thinking and being able to predict your opponents’ moves.

Mario and Sonic at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games

Wii U Release Date: June 24

The latest entry in the ongoing series, this one features some new events like Rugby and Rhythm Gymnastics.

Hyrule Warriors Legends
Release Date: March 25

Hyrule Warriors Legends is 3D brawler where you take the role of a character from the Legend of Zelda series.

Mini Mario and Friends amiibo Challenge

Release Date: March 28 (Digital Download April 28)

This a free download that has levels that are matched up a specific amiibo character. There are 10 different characters that will work in the game, including Mario, Donkey Kong, and Princess Peach.


Bravely Second End Layer
Release Date: April 15

This is the sequel to Bravely Default, which is a Japanese role-playing game that features a unique job system.

Star Fox Zero

Release Date: April 22

This is a game fans have been waiting for for a while. It’s a re-imagining of Star Fox 64 with some cool new maps and areas.

Star Fox Guard

A bundle-in game for Star Fox Zero, this game has you using a security system to track and attack enemies. It also included the ability to make your own enemy patterns and play the patterns other players have made.

Lost Reavers

Release Date: April 28 (Open Beta April 14)

This is a free-to-play online cooperative game where up to four players battle together in search of treasure.

Splatoon Weapons Update

Release Date: April

This update will be released in two volumes. It will add in new weapons and improvements to existing ones. The first volume is slated for April.


Disney Art Academy
Release Date: May 13

Similar to Pokemon Art Academy, this game teaches you to draw classic and modern Disney characters.

Pocket Card Jockey
Release Date: May

Pocket Card Jockey combines solitaire with horse racing. Yes, you read that right.


Kirby Planet Robobot
Release Date: June 10

This latest game featuring the adorable pink blob introduces some big mech elements that Kirby can copy. It also includes Team Kirby Clash, which is a cooperative online game where four players can fight bosses together.

Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE

This game is a Japanese role-playing game with a basis in music. The interesting thing about this one is that the audio track will be exclusively in Japanese, with English subtitles.

Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past

Part of the popular Dragon Quest series, this version of the game has been remade for the 3DS with updated graphics.

Monster Hunter Generations

This is the latest entry in the Monster Hunter series, which is an action-RPG with a unique class system.

Metroid Prime Federation Force
Release Date: Late Spring 2016

A game that has been in development for a long time, this entry in the Metroid series puts you in the role of federation soldiers rather than series’ main protagonist, Samus.

Rhythm Heaven Megamix
Release Date: 2016

This game features rhythm-based mini games that have appeared in previous Rhythm Heaven games.
