Minecraft is everywhere in education these days. Now a teacher-made mod for the game, ComputerCraftEdu, is available for classrooms and parents.

The mod adds programmable turtle robots to Minecraft. (Yes, animal turtles.) The mod will hopefully help kids learn basic programming skills and concepts like loops, conditions, and debugging. It’s free to download. The website has lots more tools for learners and teachers—a Wiki, YouTube videos, a Google group for teachers, and tutorials.

TeacherGaming is the group who made the mod:

“TeacherGaming is an independent game development company of teachers and developers based in the United States and Finland. Our mission is to expand game-based learning into classrooms worldwide. From the very beginning we wanted to make something completely different from traditional learning games and began by modifying Minecraft to meet the needs of teachers.”
