At their E3 press conference this morning, Nintendo announced a brand-new addition to the Zelda family. The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes will be a multiplayer Zelda game for 3DS. It looks to be a cross between The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventure and The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds.
The game supports three players, either local or online. The creators really wanted to focus on cooperative play, rather than competitive play. Although gamers will not be able to see or hear each other through their 3DSes, they will need to work together in order to traverse the world’s puzzles and dungeons. Players will all share a single heart meter, which encourages them to look after each other. There is also a single-player mode.

And for the first time, fashion will play a big role in a Zelda game. By wearing different outfits, characters can gain new abilities.

Tri Force Heroes looks like a nice, lighthearted installment in the Zelda franchise. I look forward to seeing if its story is as compelling as this complex universe deserves. The game is slated for release this fall.
