Developer Player First Games is openly transparent about the big update coming to MultiVersus when it re-launches on May 28. The latest post in the Developer Series details new updates and changes coming to combat, including dash, parry, and updated character kits.

“During Open Beta it became clear that a number of players found it challenging to track the details of combat during matches, so we made a number of changes to improve the overall clarity of battle,” states the blog post. “While the fundamentals remain the same, we think you’ll appreciate the tweaks we’ve incorporated to improve the flow of a match, making the moment-to-moment easier and clearer for players to observe.”

Characters will be a bit larger, and the camera more dynamic, tracking tight 1v1 battles and wider chaotic shots. New animations will help track characters’ states, and several new attack options have been added. All characters can perform a dash attack to quickly close the gap and help speeds up combat.

Skilled players can take advantage of the new parry defense. Using precision timing, players can block an attack and counter, but miss the timing and it will leave you more vulnerable than before.

Every fighter is also getting an upgrade, with some getting al new abilities, such as Harley’s balloons (video above). The goal is to make each ability feel more precise.

MultiVersus is an arena fighter that first launched via open beta in 2022, but closed after one year and two seasons. Published by Warner Bros. Games, the eclectic roster includes characters from DC comics, Scooby Doo, Game of Thrones, Adventure Time, Loony Tunes, and Ricky and Morty.

MultiVersus will launch as a free-to-play title on PC (Steam, Epic), PlayStation, and Xbox on May 28.
