GOG Summer Sale Includes New Demos and Free Games

Posted by | News, PC | No Comments

Digital PC storefront GOG may play second-fiddle to Steam, but they still boast an impressive annual summer sale each year.  This year the GOG Summer Sale features over 3000 PC games up to 95% off. You’ll also find several free games and some new demos for upcoming releases.

First, the free games. GOG has made three games in its catalog completely free: Ascendant, an indie platformer from 2014, Delores, a recent mini spin-off of excellent retro adventure game Thimbleweed Park, and War Wind, a sci-fi RTS from the 90s.

The free games have been added to GOG’s free games collection, so you can grab them whenever.

As part of the sale, GOG has also added seven new demos for upcoming games, including Desperados 3.

Available free demos:

  • Desperados 3 – western real-time tactical game from the makers of Shadow Tactics.
  • Destroy All Humans! – remake of the cheeky 1950s sci-fi action game starring a destructive alien.
  • System Shock – remake of the classic sci-fi horror-shooter.
  • Carrion – reverse horror adventure in which you get to play as the amorphous monster.
  • Spiritfarer – relaxing management game about ferrying people to the afterlife.
  • Vagrus – the Riven Realms – strategy-RPG as you manage a caravan through a dark fantasy world.
  • Cris Tales – indie JRPG starring a newly awakened Time Mage.

Find tons of great PC games on sale, including Divinity Original Sin 2 – Definitive Edition (50% off), Disco Elysium (25% off), and Pillars of Eternity 2: Deadfire (60% off). GOG also offers publisher bundle deals with Daedalic, 11 bit Studios, EA, Paradox, and more.

The GOG Summer Sale ends June 15.

Unlock Free Games During the GOG Summer Gaming Sale

Posted by | News, PC | No Comments

Grab a cool drink and fire up the PC for the annual Summer Gaming Sale on GOG. The sale features over 1000 deals up to 90% off, including recent indie games and classics from the 80s and 90s. The Summer Gaming Sale ends June 18.

This year you can earn several free games, beginning with Xenonauts. To get Xenonauts simply go to GOG.com, sign in, and click the button. Xenonauts launched in 2014 as a more authentic, old school spiritual successor to X-COM: UFO Defense.

Note that the Xenonauts giveaway only lasts for 48 hours. Grab it before June 6.

There are two more free games you can earn by spending money during the sale. Spend $5 to unlock Sunless Sea, ship-based adventure-RPG, and $20 to get RIME, a 3D platformer. Upon spending the money you’ll receive codes to redeem on GOG. Make sure you redeem those codes by July 2.

The Summer Gaming Sale features a solid mix of game styles and genres. You can find small discounts on very recent releases like Into the Breach (20% off), Frostpunk (10% off), The Swords of Ditto (20% off), Hand of Fate 2 (15% off), Cuphead (15% off), and Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (33% off).

Slightly older games feature better discounts: Darkest Dungeon (60% off), The Witness (60% off), and Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun (50% off).

For the best sale prices we’ll need to go back even further, into PC gaming’s classic past. How about Theme Hospital (85% off), SimCity 2000 (85% off), Dungeon Keeper 2 (75% off), and RollerCoaster Tycoon (67% off)?

If you’re jumping into PC gaming and not sure where to start, GOG offers both recommendations from gaming outlets (much the same as Steam’s curators), as well as series bundles.

The GOG Summer Gaming Sale ends June 18.

The 2017 Steam Summer Sale Is Here

Posted by | News, PC | No Comments

It’s the most wonderful day of the mid-year: the start of the annual Summer Sale on Steam.

As with the last few years, Steam has eliminated the timed flash deals in favor of static deals lasting over the next two weeks. Sale prices also aren’t quite what they used to be, averaging closer to 50-60% rather than 75% and above. Still, a deal’s a deal, and you won’t find a bigger collection of discounted PC games anywhere else.

Here are some particularly juicy deals:

  • Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition $3.99 (80% off)
  • Deus Ex: Mankind Divided $14.99 (75% off)
  • Tom Clancy’s The Division $19.99 (60% off)
  • Dishonored 2 $19.99 (50% off)
  • Fallout 4 $14.99 (50% off)
  • Divinity: Original Sin – Enhanced Edition $15.99 (60% off)
  • Darkest Dungeon $9.99 (60% off)
  • Galactic Civilizations III + Crusades Expansion $19.99 (60% off)
  • Steamworld Heist $5.09 (66% off)
  • This War of Mine $3.99 (80% off)
  • Transistor $2.99 (85% off)

You can also find entire franchises on sale. Most Final Fantasy titles are 50% off, including Final Fantasy XIII, and X/X-2 HD Remaster. You can also find all the Call of Duty games for 50% off, such as Black Ops III and Infinite Warfare. Don’t forget to look up games on Steam Database to see if the sale price is actually a good deal.

Each major Steam Sale (Summer and Winter) features a little mini-game or social game. This year’s Steam Summer Sale is introducing a Sticker Book.

Stickers are similar to Steam’s digital trading cards. You get them from sticker packs earned by completing quests. You can earn one sticker pack a day by viewing your Discovery Queue. In addition each day will feature Daily Quests to complete. As long as the Steam Summer Sale is still ongoing, you can always complete a Daily Quest.

The Daily Quests for June 22 are to view your Activity page, and to review your Store Preferences to tailor which games you see first.

The Steam Summer Sale ends July 5.
