Indie developer Ogre Pixel is launching co-op action-platformer Castlebound on Steam PC and Switch 1/2 on November 11. A free demo is also available to download right now on Steam during Steam Next Fest.
Castlebound is a side-scrolling action game starring warrior archer Lenora and her wizardly grandfather, Vargus. After awakening an ancient walking fortress, our heroes must protect it as they journey through monster-infested lands. Gameplay combines tower defense and side-scrolling action with roguelike progression.
Each run is unique, and there are multiple hero options, including a Knight and a Trickster, each with their own skills and playstyle. After each run, including failures (hey, it’s a roguelike after all), players will earn Soul Coins that can be used to upgrade heroes and unlock new abilities.
The full game is playable solo, or with up to four players in local co-op.
I’m particularly enamored with the cute and colorful art style, reminding me of the Wonder Boy series. The white border and simple animations resemble stickers, or paper cut-outs. Love it!
The small game studio based in Mexico successfully funded Castlebound with a recent Kickstarter campaign of over 500 backers.
Castlebound will release on Steam, Switch, and Switch 2 on November 11. Steam Next Fest ends October 26.
