Developer Tactical Adventures has released their RPG sequel, Solasta 2, via Early Access on Steam ($39.99). The Early Access version includes “a substantial portion of the campaign covering the majority of Act 1,” and will remain in Early Access for at least a year.
A 10% launch discount is available through March 26.
Solasta 2 is the sequel to Solasta: Crown of the Magister, an indie take on the DnD RPG formula that released back in 2021, before Baldur’s Gate 3 even launched in Early Access. Solasta is actually more true to the Dungeons & Dragons ruleset, adapting the 5th edition rules far closer than Baldur’s Gate 3.
However, unlike BG3, Solasta does not use the D&D IP, and uses its own original world and characters. Though BG3 fans will recognize the voice talents of Amelia Tyler (BG3’s narrator) and Devora Wilde (BG3’s Lae’Zel)!
Also, instead of meeting beloved party members along the way, in Solasta you make a full four-player team of characters. In Solasta 2, these characters are adopted siblings who are reunited after the death of their mother, with ties to an ancestral conflict and an ancient force.
The Early Access version features four different ancestries: dwarf, elf, halfling, and human, and six playable classes. Each class has two subclasses, except Cleric which has three (stupid Clerics, always favored by the developers!).
The turn-based combat system uses the updated 2024 D&D ruleset (also known as 5.5e), making it the first major video game adaptation to use the latest ruleset of the tabletop RPG.
The level cap during Early Access is four, which is similar to where BG3’s level cap was during their Early Access period, if I recall correctly.
Also, while the full version will support four player online co-op multiplayer, like the original Solasta, the Early Access version supports single player only.
The Early Access roadmap reveals the first major update coming in Q3 2026, adding multipalyer and a new class, while a second major update at the end of the year will add more ancestries, classes, an increased level cap, the start of Act 2, and a crafting system.
Solasta 2 is out now on Steam Early Access.
