Games for Change announced the return of the 21st Games for Change Festival. The 2024 Festival will take place June 27-28 in New York City, New York.

This year’s Festival theme is “The 2030 Marker: A Catalyst for Global Change,” inspired by the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development are a series of 17 goals and calls to action that were adopted in 2015 at the United Nations.

The Games for Festival event will feature workshops, panels, and discussions that explore how gaming and virtual reality can impact global issues such as hunger, poverty, and pollution.

“The Games for Change Festival is the nucleus for future-forward ideas in gaming and XR,” said Susanna Pollack, president, Games For Change. “This year, inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals, we’re crafting a program where we critically explore how games and immersive media can create a healthier, more equitable world. Our goal is to lead with innovation, sparking dynamic conversations and collaborations that confront global change.”

The Festival is still accepting speaker and award submissions until February 5th, 2024. Winners of the awards, which focus on social impact and education, will be announced during the Award Ceremony on June 28.

Last year’s 20th anniversary Games for Change Festival brought over 4,500 people together in person and virtually. Last year’s Games for Change Game of the Year winner was Endling: Extinction is Forever, about a mother fox keeping her cubs alive in an apocalyptic Earth.
