One of the biggest new game announcements at The Game Awards 2023 was for Monster Hunter Wilds, the next chapter in the highly successful co-op action series from Capcom.

Along with a trailer, Monster Hunter Wilds is teased as a 2025 release for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Unfortunately, the announcement came with exactly zero details on the actual gameplay. The trailer showcases the hunter riding on an animal capable of running and gliding, and looks far more involved than the Palamute from Monster Hunter Rise. The scene features a herd of creatures running from a much larger monster.

Monster Hunter is less about huge innovations and more about iterative updates and changes in each entry, while maintaining the core gameplay loop of going on hunts for large boss-size monsters, then using their parts to craft better gear.

I would love for zones to be much larger and more open-world size. One of the best elements of Monster Hunter is when hunts go terribly awry due to other creatures stepping in, including large monsters, as well as other challenging environmental factors.

“We’re thrilled to announce Monster Hunter Wilds today and reveal the newest entry in the Monster Hunter series to fans all over the world,” said Ryozo Tsujimoto, producer. “Our team is working passionately to create the greatest Monster Hunter experience yet, and we’re eager to play the game with everyone when it launches in 2025. Until then, please look forward to summer 2024, when we’ll have more information to share.”

With the announcement, the last main entry game, Monster Hunter Rise, is currently available at a 50%-60% discount on PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox digital stores.
