The Pokémon Company has announced the first tournament for online MOBA Pokémon Unite. The qualifying rounds for the 2022 Pokémon Unite Championship Series begins this month. The tournament lasts for several months, with the final regional championships taking place in June in London, England.
Players will need to form teams of five and compete using Pokémon Unite’s new tournament mode, which is “designed to even the playing field for competitors, regardless of their held item grades,” according to a news post last month.
Matches can be played with the Switch or mobile versions of Pokémon Unite.
Players will earn Championship Points by playing in qualifying tournament each month, within their regional zone, such as North America, Europe, Oceania, and Japan. Only two teams from each region (or one from South America and Oceania) will move on and receive the invitation to go to London for the championship.
Championship Points are awarded based on the team’s finishing place for the month. Points are retained for individual players, allowing players to change teams throughout the season. Players can also compete in an Open Qualifier round each month, via double elimination format. April will feature a special Aeos Cup that awards more CP than the regular monthly tournaments, as well as bonus cash prizes.
