Last month Square Enix revealed the three Final Fantasy Legend games that originally launched on the Game Boy are heading to Nintendo Switch eShop as the Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend. During the Tokyo Game Show 2020 Online event, Square Enix showcased a new trailer for the old school collection.

The trailer revealed the new features that have been added to these thirty-year old monochrome RPGs from 1990, 1991, and 1993. You’ll be able to slightly alter the 4:3 screen size, as well as choose from a variety of background wallpaper. A high speed mode will help make the ponderous RPGs playable in today’s standards.

One interesting new feature is the ability to disconnect the Joy-Cons in handheld-mode, and turn the Switch vertically to replicate the non-widescreen display. With the Game Boy wallpaper, this lets you recreate the old school Game Boy experience for maximum nostalgia.

Final Fantasy Legend is considered the first RPG on a handheld console. It was the start of the SaGa RPG series, but included Final Fantasy as the title to appeal to Western audiences, continuing through two more sequels on the original Game Boy. The series includes all the hallmarks of a classic console RPG, including turn-based combat, character classes, random battles, and a melodramatic story of saving the world.

Collection of SaGa Final Fantasy Legend will release on the Nintendo eShop on December 15. The games are rated E10+.
