The long drought of no Nintendo Directs is finally over, sort of. Nintendo stealth-dropped a Nintendo Direct Mini today to remind everyone that yes, there are a few notable Switch games coming out this year after Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
The good news: the “Mini” is just as long as regular Directs. The bad news: most of the games are remasters, ports, or expansions.
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition is an HD remaster of the 2010 RPG, which originally launched on the Nintendo Wii. The HD face-lift includes re-made HUD and menu screens, remastered music tracks, and a new epilogue called Future Connected. The Switch Definitive Edition is launching May 29.
In Animal Crossing: New Horizons, islanders will celebrate Bunny Day, which lasts from April 1 – 12. A new bunny character will hide eggs around the island. You’ll need to download the launch day 1.1 patch to participate.
The sixth post-launch Super Smash Bros. Ultimate fighter was teased during the Direct. Nintendo teased that it’s a character from the ARMS fighting game series, but didn’t confirm which one. We’ll have to wait a bit longer. The ARMS fighter will represent the first of the next wave of fighters in Fighters Pass Vol. 2 DLC bundle.
Publisher 2K is bringing many of their best-selling series to the Switch, collecting some of the best games of the last decade. BioShock: The Collection includes BioShock, BioShock 2, and BioShock Infinite. The Borderlands Legendary Collection features Borderlands 1 and 2 and the Pre-Sequel. Finally the XCOM 2 Collection includes the strategy sequel, the huge War of the Chosen expansion, and all four DLC packs. All three bundles launch on May 29.
The Direct Mini also featured a new gameplay video for upcoming JRPG Bravely Default 2. The trailer revealed the main characters and how they can unlock new job classes by defeating certain bosses. Bravely Default 2 is releasing later this year, but a demo is available right now.
Other new trailers include King’s Bounty 2, Catherine: Full Body, and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3′s third DLC pack, Fantastic Four: Shadow of Doom.
