Sega Games is bringing last year’s Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 to mobile (iOS, Android, Amazon) this summer. There’s at least one important difference however – Mario characters won’t be included.

Sonic at the Olympic Games is billed as “the official mobile game of the Olympic Games.” It features 15 Olympic Games, including new games to the Tokyo 2020 version, Karate and Sport Climbing. Other events include 400 meter dash, hammer throw, and table tennis, and mini-games like claw machine and quiz challenge. Multiplayer features include online leaderboards and time and score challenges you can send to other players.

Sixteen playable characters will be available form the Sonic universe, including Knuckles, Amy, Shadow, and Dr. Eggman.

Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will arrive on mobile on May 7. Pre-registration is available now on iOS, Android, and Amazon. Sega is offering special launch game rewards based on the number of pre-registrations, as follows:

  • 100,000 pre-registrations will unlock the Ocean View music track from Team Sonic Racing.
  • 300,000 pre-registrations will unlock Training Points that can be used to unlock events and special skills.
  • 500,000 pre-registrations will unlock the badge featuring Miraitowa, the Tokyo 2020 mascot.

If pre-registers exceed 500,000, additional rewards will be offered.

The 2020 Olympics game originally released last November on Switch, and featured a crossover between Mario and Sonic universes.

Sonic at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will be free-to-download with in-app purchase to unlock the full game. It’s rated E for Everyone.
