If you’ve ever wanted your own aquarium, but don’t have the room, time, or inclination to care for one, you could consider going digital. Indie sim Biotope is billed as the “first and only photorealistic aquarium simulator available on PC,” according to the press release. It’s available now on Steam Early Access for $19.99, currently with a 15% launch discount.

Biotope uses realistic water chemistry, fish behavior and health, and budget concerns to properly care for your digital aquarium.

Three aquariums are available to start, not including a tutorial tank: an empty tank, Amazon, and Malawi aquarium set-ups. You’ll need to maintain proper water quality to keep fish healthy. Fish follow the natural life cycle of birth, growth, and death, and can breed in proper conditions.

A monthly budget can be used to purchase supplies like filters, lights, and food, as well as various plants and decorations. Increased budgets can be earned by completing quests and objectives. Successful fish breeders can also sell fish for a profit.

Biotope is available now on Steam Early Access. It has not been rated by the ESRB, but judging by the casual simulation, it should be appropriate for all ages.
