Apex Legends Season 2 has kicked off this week. Season 2 is called Battle Charge, and adds new legend Wattson, updates to the King’s Canyon map, a new weapon, and Ranked Leagues.
With a new season comes a new battle pass (950 Apex Coins). Season 2 adds new Daily and Weekly challenges to help earn xp and progress through the battle pass to unlock more goodies. Completing daily challenges (three per day, from a random pool of 200) earns stars, which are basically XP that are tied specifically to battle pass progression and not to your account level.
Weekly challenges are longer with better rewards. Seven weekly challenges will be available each week, with four awarding double the star value as daily challenges, and three rewarding an entire battle pass level.
Daily challenges will reset but weekly challenges will accumulate, allowing access to all weekly challenges as they unlock.
The new legend Natalie “Wattson” Paquette is all about electricity. Her tactical ability is Perimeter Security, which allows her to build and connect nodes, creating electrified fences. Her ultimate ability is Interceptor Pylon, which places a defensive electrified pylon that destroys incoming missiles, and repairs shields. Her passive, Spark of Genius, allows Ultimate Accelerants to fully charge her ultimate ability, and standing her her pylon quickly boosts her tactical ability.
Season 2 brings the biggest changes to the King’s Canyon map. Repulsor Tower has been demolished, allowing the wild alien wildlife to gain a foothold, such as the leviathans and flyers. A new six-story containment outpost called the Cage has been added, full of supplies and lots of competition.
The new Season 2 weapon is the L Star, a rare LMG that rapidly fires plasma projectiles.
Ranked Leagues have finally been added to Apex Legends. The leagues are Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Apex Predator. Ranked leagues will feature skill-based matchmaking and unlockable rewards at the end of each season. Details of how exactly ranked mode works can be found here.
Apex Legends Season 2 will run through September. Apex Legends is available for free on PC (Origin), PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. It’s rated T for Teen.
