Beloved Skyrim YouTuber Grandma Shirley Added as an NPC to Elder Scrolls 6

Bethesda is streaming a number of panels and videos, called Bethesda Game Days, during PAX East 2019. The streams are going on this weekend on the official Twitch and YouTube pages.

But the best news you’ll see is that Shirley Curry, also known as Grandma Shirley and Skyrim Grandma, has been immortalized in The Elder Scrolls 6 using their 3D scanning technology. It was announced during their 25 year celebration of The Elder Scrolls.

“This means a lot to me, because I would be extremely happy to know that somebody else is playing with my character in a future Elder Scrolls game,” says Grandma Shirley. The 82-year old holds the Guinness World Record of oldest video game YouTuber and has uploaded hundreds of Skyrim Let’s Play videos and vlogs over the years. She has nearly 500,000 subscribers, and refers to all her fans as her grandkids.

Unfortunately, Elder Scrolls games take an increasingly long time to release. Of the last three main titles: Morrowind released in 2002, Oblivion in 2006, and Skyrim in 2011. We’re past due for the next title, but Bethesda only recently confirmed the as yet un-subtitled Elder Scrolls 6 during last year’s E3. And it won’t make a showing at all at this year’s conference.

Many fans of Skyrim Grandma have been upset that the game is still several years away, and she won’t get a chance to play it. A petition was started to put her in the game. Bethesda previously did this for a fan who passed away from cancer shortly before Skyrim’s release, immortalizing them as an NPC.

Bethesda took notice and invited Grandma Shirley to their studio, where they used their object mapping technology to create an in-game 3D model. We’re still way too early in development to even know what kind of character Grandma Shirley will show up as, but it’s a sweet gesture, and Skyrim Grandma rules.
