The first home console release Dragon Quest game in the U.S. in 14 years is finally here. Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age launches today on PlayStation 4 and PC. A Switch version will follow sometime next year.
Dragon Quest 11 features over 70 hours of classic Japanese RPG gameplay. It originally released last year in Japan. The new Western release gets English voiceovers as well as a newly improved UI and menu system and a new Camera Mode. An extra challenging Draconian Mode has also been added to provide series veterans with top tier difficulty settings.
Square Enix is also making the rather bold but welcoming claim that Dragon Quest 11 won’t need any post-game DLC. Instead the massive RPG should include everything players would want right out of the box.
Included with Dragon Quest 11 are the digital outfit options Trodain Bandana and Trodain Togs from Dragon Quest 8. These are the classic accessories that the unnamed hero of Dragon Quest 8 wore, allowing you to dress up the hero of Dragon Quest 11 in that style.
The Dragon Quest series is one of the longest-running in video game history. The original launched in 1986 on the Nintendo Entertainment System. Every single DQ game has been designed and written by the same person: Yuji Horii, creating a richly uniform style along with artist Akira Toriyama and musical composer Koichi Sugiayama. The series is considered to be one of the grandfathers of RPGs, featuring turn-based battles, class-based leveling, and heroic fantasy stories and worlds.
Dragon Quest 11 is available now on PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam). It’s rated T for Teen.
