The internet is rightfully ablaze with Star Wars fever one again. Disney and Lucasfilm have released the first official teaser trailer to Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which opens later this year. The trailer was revealed at the end of the Star Wars: The Last Jedi panel at Star Wars Celebration in Orlando.
The trailer picks up right where 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens left off: mysterious protagonist and Force-user Rey meeting an older, secluded Luke Skywalker. Interspersed between planetary battles with AT-AT’s, space battles with A-Wings, and a hefty amount of explosions are scenes of Rey being trained by Luke. This immediately hearkens back to Luke being trained by Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back.
What we didn’t see much of was Finn, Kylo Ren, or newcomer Rose. Finn was briefly shown healing up from his injuries from the final battle with Ren, while Ren was given only the briefest of glimpses angrily wielding his lightsaber (and sporting an eye scar courtesy of Rey).
New character Rose, played by actress Kelly Marie Tran was also introduced during The Last Jedi panel. She plays a maintenance worker in the Resistance and apparently will play a large role within the film, though she was absent in this initial teaser.
The trailer ends as Luke leaves us with some cryptic words: “I only know one truth. It’s time for the Jedi to end.” Now let’s enjoy a full seven months of theorizing!
