Outbreak, a new co-op shooter survival horror game, will be available on Steam on January 17. The game was inspired by the classic Silent Hill and Resident Evil franchises and includes both co-op and single-player modes. Developer Dead Drop Studios hopes to bring back the old school style of survival horror gameplay where players team up online to battle hordes of undead enemies with limited supplies.
In Outbreak, a cancer research facility called Arzt Memorial Hospital experiences a mysterious breach. Suddenly, a mass of undead beings is unleashed upon the world, and the only thing standing in their way is a group of four unlikely allies. Police officer Mason, computer scientist Alendra, college student Ethan, and paralegal Quies each have unique strengths and weaknesses that they bring to the team. Together, these four strangers must discover the truth behind what happened at Arzt Memorial Hospital while struggling to stay alive.
Though players can move through the single-player campaign by themselves, the game is intended to be played in online multiplayer mode. The difficulty is scaled up to challenge players and force them to be strategic. There’s no pausing, tricky puzzles, and players only get one life. You’ll need to make the most of the items you pick up to make it to the finish line.
Outbreak will be released on Steam for Windows only on Tuesday, January 17. The game will be on sale for $10.49 until January 24.
