Pokémon GO, the augmented reality mobile game that took over the world, is finally adding new Pokémon. Only a select few are available right now, including Togepi and Pichu. You’ll have to do a little legwork to get them: they all hatch from eggs.
“Trainers will have the opportunity to hatch these and several other Pokémon that were originally discovered in the Johto Region in Pokémon Gold and Pokémon Silver video games,” states the press release. “These are the first of more Pokémon coming to Pokémon GO over the next few months.”
The second generation of Pokémon games added a number of baby Pokémon. Pokémon GO will begin their Gen 2 roll out by adding all these baby Pokémon though eggs.
Pokémon GO Reddit has already identified all the new babies you can hatch, and what eggs they hatch from. Previously you could hatch their adult versions from eggs, so the babies are a step down in time and power. But they are adorable.
Also included in the Holiday Update are festive Pikachus. Starting now until December 29, Pikachus around the world can be found wearing Santa hats. It also looks like they’ve raised the rate of finding Pikachu in the wild.
Recently Niantic Labs revealed that elusive Pokémon Ditto can be caught in the wild. The catch is that the blob-like shapeshifter can appear as any other Pokémon. Which means I have to go back to the dark days of catching every Rattata and Pidgey I see.
Pokémon GO’s huge popularity has not gone unnoticed by corporations. Niantic Labs have so far made deals with both Starbucks and Sprint to create new PokéStops and Gyms. Starbucks is even selling a special “Pokémon GO Frappuccino.” Capitalism!
