The HTC Vive virtual-reality headset has been delayed. Now it’s slated to be released in April of 2016. In the meantime, HTC will be making 7,000 more developer units available.
“Since announcing the HTC Vive in March of this year we have focused on developing immersive content, refining both hardware design and user experience, and building relationships with new partners both inside and outside of the gaming industry,” said HTC in a blog post.
Developer kits for the HTC Vive started going out in June. The headset is being produced by HTC in partnership with Valve, the company behind digital distribution platform Steam and the Steam Machine consoles.
On December 18, HTC will be releasing Dev Kit 2 for the HTC Vive at a developer conference in Beijing. They also said they would be hosting demos at events like the Sundance Film Festival, GDC, and SXSW.
This puts the HTC Vive on a similar track with other VR devices, which are all coming out in the first half of 2016. The HTC Vive was revealed in March 2015.
