The New York-based start-up Blippar Lab has launched a virtual reality app to teach children about anatomy. It’s called Cardio VR, and it’s out for Android and iOS, and is playable with Google Cardboard.
Google Cardboard is the free VR headset that you can make yourself out of cardboard. In this app kids become doctors, and have to diagnose patients as well as prescribe cures. You can use X-ray vision to see internal problems on a variety of patients.
The app is free, just like Google Cardboard’s native app. Cardboard as a platform has largely avoided monetization. This month a million New York Times subscribers will get their own Google Cardboard device with their copy of the Times. And teachers across the country are getting free Google Cardboard field trips and lesson plans to go with them.
Blippar Lab is exploring other virtual and augmented reality products through their research. This is their first VR app, though the company created augmented reality games for Google Glass last year.
