Mojang and Telltale Games revealed a new Minecraft: Story Mode trailer today. The trailer, for Episode One: the Order of the Stone, reveals a bit more about the Order and shows some of the world we’ll be traversing in the game.
This episode will be the first of five episodes in the series. You play as “Jesse,” who can be either male or female and has several different looks to choose from—something we’re thrilled about, even if the trailer showcases only one version of the character. Jesse and his/her friends, including a very good pig, are big fans of the Order of the Stone. The Order—the Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect—are slayers of the Ender Dragon. The troop plans to attend Endercon in order to meet Gabriel the Warrior, but something goes dreadfully wrong, and terror is unleashed upon the world. The friends travel across the Overworld, through the Nether, to the End, and beyond.
This is definitely a teamwork, saving-the-world, best-friends kind of game, as far as we can tell. Pixelkin got the opportunity to play Minecraft: Story Mode at PAX Prime 2015, and we wrote out our impressions—one part from the perspective of a Minecraft veteran, and one part from a Minecraft amateur who happens to love Telltale games.
Minecraft: Story Mode will follow in the footsteps of Telltale’s previous series with branching story lines and different dialogue options that can change both the outcome of the story and the way your companions feel about you.
The Order of the Stone will be available at launch for PC and Mac (via Steam and other digital distribution services), PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, and Xbox One and Xbox 360. It will become available for iOS and Android devices starting Thursday October 15. The series will also eventually be coming to Wii U and PlayStation Vita.
