In a too-brief teaser trailer, Mojang Studios announced Minecraft Dungeons 2 releasing later this year on Steam PC, PlayStation 5, Switch, Switch 2, and Xbox Series X/S.
No other details have been announced, but a sequel to Minecraft Dungeons should warrant plenty of excitement — especially for co-op family gamers!
The original Minecraft Dungeons dropped in 2020 as a purely hack-and-slash action game, using the Minecraft world, art style, and enemies. It was basically a mashup of classic Diablo-style gameplay, with hordes of enemies and random loot drops, and within the randomly generated, voxel worlds of Minecraft.
Unlike many hack-and-slash RPGs, Minecraft Dungeons doesn’t have any classes, relying instead on weapons and items to provide new attacks and abilities.
But the best part of Minecraft Dungeons was its support for co-op multiplayer, including same-screen and split-screen local and online multiplayer. Its excellent co-op baked into straightforward action gameplay made it a big winner for gaming families — especially Minecraft fans!
Minecraft Dungeons was also well-supported after launch, receiving several premium DLC expansion packs with new areas to explore.
The original Minecraft Dungeons is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Switch, and Xbox platforms, and rated E10+.
Minecraft Dungeons 2 will release later this year.
