During the Nintendo Indie Showcase, Swiss developer Indoor Astronaut announced that Unrailed 2: Back on Track, is leaving Early Access and launching on Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 (alongside Steam PC) in May. A PlayStation 5 release is also due later this year.

To whet your train whistle, the developers also released a new playable demo of Unrailed 2 on Switch. The demo features the first biome of the game, as well as the first boss encounter, and includes support for up to four players in local co-op.

Unrailed 2 is the sequel to 2020’s Unrailed, a delightfully chaotic multiplayer game where players work to keep a train moving through isometric, Minecraft-inspired areas filled with dangers. Players must gather resources and clear paths to lay tracks, and prevent their ever-moving train from derailing before it reaches the exit.

Between levels, players can upgrade their train with new car features to help make their jobs easier and more efficient.

Unrailed 2 has been in Early Access on Steam for over a year, receiving several large updates, including new biomes, characters, and game modes.

The sequel adds permanent upgrades, six unique biomes (each with a final boss encounter), and a new Terrain Conductor mode with player-built maps to create, download, and share. Plus, the sequel features a new 8-player versus mode, which sounds completely, beautifully insane.

Unrailed 2: Back on Track will release as 1.0 on Steam PC and Switch in May. An exact date has not yet been announced. It’s rated E for Everyone.
