KingsIsle Entertainment announced that MMO Wizard 101 will release on Nintendo Switch on January 13. The $19.99 Switch version will include the first five story arcs, with additional content available as in-app purchases.
Around for nearly two decades on PC, the aging MMO recently released on PlayStation and Xbox consoles just a few months ago. The PlayStation and Xbox versions are free-to-download, but only include the Oasis zone of Krokotopia.
Nintendo players play on the same console server as PlayStation and Xbox players, but cross-progression is not available.
With the Switch release, Wizard 101 will be available on all major gaming platforms.
In Wizard 101, players create their own young wizard to attend the Ravenwood School of Magical Arts. Using turn-based card battles, players learn spells, customize their deck of spell-cards, and battle against monsters and rogue professors with nefarious schemes.
The world of Spiral is also full of mini-games and activities, including training pets, crafting gear, fishing, and customizing a personal home.
Given its theme and art style, Wizard 101 has been a popular MMO for younger gamers. KingsIsle promises a “multiplayer safe kids game,” and includes pre-generated player names, pre-selected phrases for chatting, moderated message boards, and parental controls to limit spending.
Wizard 101 is available on PC, PlayStation, and Xbox, and launching on Switch on January 13. It’s rated E10+ by the ESRB.
