AdHoc Studio launched its first game, the superhero management sim Dispatch, on Steam PC and PlayStation 5 ($29.99). Well, mostly. The first two episodes are available now, with six more arriving every week (at a rate of two per week on Wednesdays) through November.
An episodic game? In 2025? How quaint!
Like the Telltale adventure games of old (old as in 2010s anyway), Dispatch is an episodic adventure game starring Robert Robertson, a superhero whose mech suit was recently destroyed, forcing him into a desk job at Superhero Dispatch Network.
As a Dispatcher, Robert manages reformed supervillains and sends them out on missions, while dealing with their interpersonal drama, office politics, and wacky shenanigans.
It should come as no surprise that AdHoc Studio is comprised of many veterans of Telltale Games.
“We built Dispatch to be something people can play, watch, and talk about together,” said Nick Herman, Creative Director and co-founder, AdHoc Studio. “Some of our favorite gaming moments come from comparing choices with friends, and we hope this series sparks those same kinds of conversations.”
The cartoon art style and top-talent voice acting (including Jeffrey Wright, Laura Baily, and Aaron Paul) is quite impressive. I certainly enjoyed my limited time with the demo that was available during last Summer’s Steam Next Fest.
Don’t let that art style fool you, however. Like Invincible, this superhero cartoon is quite R rated!
Dispatch is rated M for Mature, with Blood, Crude Humor, Nudity, Sexual Content, Strong Language, Use of Drugs and Alcohol.
