Saber interactive and indie studio Twirlbound have released The Knightling, an open-world action-adventure starring a junior knight with a big shield. It’s available now on Steam PC, PlayStation, and Xbox.
The Knightling is set in the colorful fantasy kingdom of Clesseia. When the brave and powerful knight Sir Lionstone goes missing, it’s up to his much smaller (but no less brave!) squire to find him. Thankfully the knight-in-training has a trusty ally — Lionstone’s large, gear-like shield, Magnustego.
Thanks to the shield, the Knightling doesn’t even need any other weapon. Lionstone’s shield acts as a powerful weapon, including flinging it at foes or slamming into them a ala Captain America. It’s also a critical tool for exploration and puzzle-solving, as the knight can ride the shield like a sled, or fly as a glider.
It’s also a shield, providing the Knightling with blocks, parries, bashes, and other combo moves.
Judging by the trailer, the world of Clessia is saturated in bright colors, with lots of exploration, monsters, and puzzles. It’s like if Link from The Legend of Zelda was given Captain America’s shield and combo powers.
The standard edition of The Knightling is available for $29.99. A Deluxe Edition ($34.99) includes a few in-game cosmetics to change the look of the Knightling and the shield. It’s rated E10+ with Alcohol Reference and Fantasy Violence.
