Snail Games revealed the release date for ARK DLC, ARK: Aquatica. ARK: Aquatica will release on July 15 on Steam ($14.99), specifically for ARK: Survival Evolved. For the first two weeks of launch, the price of the DLC will be discounted by 40% ($8.99).
ARK: Aquatica celebrates the 10-year anniversary of ARK: Survival Evolved — wow, has it really been that long? It has! The DLC was designed by Studio Sirens, and will be available exclusively for PC players of ARK: Survival Evolved.
Aquatica adds an all-new underwater biome with 21 new creatures, and 74 new Engrams. The underwater environment comes with new survival mechanics — like worrying about breathing! Players must deal with rapids, water pressure, and other extreme hazards.
New creatures include the protective Mudpuppy, and mystical Monodon. With new Engrams, players can adapt land creatures for underwater, construct air pockets and submerged bases, and craft new aquatic-themed cooking recipes.
The DLC will feature official server support for a limited time, at least through the end of the year, with “potential for extension,” according to the FAQ. Modders can expect a new dev kit to update content.
In 2023, Wildcard Studios (the original developers of ARK), released ARK: Survival Ascended via Early Access. Survival Asceneded is an HD remake of ARK using Unreal Engine 5, though Steam reviews have remained Mixed since release. The player base between ASA and ASE is split down the middle, with almost the exact same number of players on each game on Steam.
A full sequel, ARK 2, is still in development.
The ARK: Survival Evolved is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox, but the Aquatic DLC is launching on Steam only, for now. The series is rated T for Teen.
