During the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, part of Summer Game Fest, Microsoft and ASUS announced new handheld gaming platform ROG Xbox Ally. The ROG Xbox Ally, and Ally X, runs on Windows 11 with an optimized Xbox interface, and it’s launching this Holiday.
The ROG Xbox Ally features a 7″ screen capable of 1080p and 120 frames per second, comparable to the recently released Switch 2 in handheld mode. It also features a massive 512 GB storage space, and it’s powered by AMD Ryzen Z2 A processor and 16 GB memory.
The Ally features a dedicated Xbox button and Game Bar overlay, and contoured grips modeled after the Xbox controller.
Similar to the Xbox Series X and S, the Ally is launching with two models. The Ally X is the more powerful SKU, with a Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor that utilizes AI assistance and integration, 24 GM memory, and 1 TB storage, with a slightly bigger 80 WHR battery. The Ally X also features haptic triggers.
As an aside, the Behind the Scenes Feature (above) is really lovely, and actually shows prototypes, and snippets of folks who worked on the gaming device. Very cool!
The ROG Xbox Ally eliminates the “desktop experience” from Windows in favor of an aggregated gaming library, which includes Xbox, Battle.net and “other leading PC storefronts.”
The handheld also supports Xbox Play Anywhere, allowing games to share their games and progress across PC, Xbox, and the Ally. Players can play games natively on the ROG Xbox Ally, via Cloud Gaming, or remotely with their Xbox console.
The one piece of information we didn’t get from this reveal? The price. Xbox will share pricing, as well as accessories and pre-orders, “in the coming months.” Players can sign up to be notified when pre-orders go live.
