Kepler Interactive and French developer Sandfall Interactive have released RPG Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 on PC (Steam, Epic), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S ($49.99).
Hmm, does that make it an FRPG?
Clair Obscur is set in an original fantasy world, where the people of Lumiere suffer under a powerful entity called the Paintress. Every year she paints a decreasing number, and everyone who matches that age (or above) disappears. Expedition 33 is the latest of a long-line of adventurers to journey to slay the Paintress before she paints again.
The single-player RPG is inspired by modern turn-based-yet-cinematic JRPGs such as Persona. Players control multiple party members in tactical combat, and use reactive inputs to dodge and parry attacks.
The striking world, art design, and creatures of Clair Obscur are modeled after the Belle Epoque period of late 19th to early 20th century France, which featured an explosion of art, music, and literature (the Eiffel Tower was built during this period).
The cinematic RPG features the voice talents of Charlie Cox, Jennifer English, Andy Serkis, and Ben Starr. The original soundtrack features over eight hours of music composed by Lorien Testard, and is available on Spotify and YouTube.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is available now in standard and Deluxe Editions. The Deluxe Edition ($59.99) includes unique outfits and hairstyles for each character. It’s rated M for Mature.
