One of the best RPGs of the modern era just received its final patch. Baldur’s Gate 3 Patch 8 adds 12 new subclasses, cross-play support, a dedicated photo mode, and a big update to the official modding toolkit.

Cross-play and photo mode were highly requested from the Baldur’s Gate 3 community. Cross-play support allows players between PC, Mac, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S to play together in a single campaign.

Photo mode can be accessed during travel, combat, dialogue, and even cutscenes, allowing players to edit with filters, stickers, and other effects.

The new subclasses offer a wealth of options. Most of them are pulled from official Dungeons & Dragons 5e sourcebooks, such as the Bard College of Glamour, Druid Circle of Stars, and Swarmkeeper Ranger.

  • Bard – College of Glamour
  • Barbarian – Path of Giants
  • Cleric – Death Domain
  • Druid – Circle of Stars
  • Fighter – Arcane Archer
  • Monk – Way of The Drunken Master
  • Paladin – Oath of the Crown
  • Ranger – Swarmkeeper
  • Rogue – Swashbuckler
  • Sorcerer – Shadow Magic
  • Warlock – Hexblade
  • Wizard  – Bladesinging

Each subclass gains unique animations and abilities, and the Paladin gets new voiced dialogue if they go Oathbreaker.

With this many new classes options, Larian Studios have released three separate video guides, with each video covering four of the new subclasses.

In a fitting nod for a final patch, Patch 8 adds a major update to the Modding Toolkit. Modders can edit existing characters, add new classes and subclasses, and create new triggers and scripts. See the official Toolkit documentation to get started.

Modding is the main reason why many aging games remain beloved and popular year after year, with Skyrim as the prime example.

Larian Studios will officially shift to other projects, while continuing to offer weekly live streams every Wednesday on YouTube.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is available on PC, Mac, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s rated M for Mature.
