During the Nintendo Direct for March 2025, fans were treated to the next big gameplay trailer for highly anticipated sequel, Metroid Prime 4: Beyond.
And it’s looking darn good!
The trailer reveals a new planet setting, Viewros, a jungle world with ancient ruins and highly aggressive monstrous creatures. The jungle setting was teased at the end of last year’s big announcement trailer.
Every Metroid game features upgrades that grant Samus new abilities. In Metroid Prime 4, she gains mysterious psychic abilities, a first for the series. Psychic abilities can be used to open doors and move objects, as well as during combat, allowing Samus to arc her blaster shots.
Metroid Prime 4 has had an infamously rocky development cycle. In 2019, Nintendo completely restarted production with a different game studio, utilizing series producer Kensuke Tanabe.
Though it’s taken awhile, Metroid Prime 4 is certainly looking nice, and exactly the first-person Metroid experience that makes the Prime series so beloved.
Metroid Prime 4 is a direct follow-up to Metroid Prime 3: Corruption (2007), though the entire Prime series still takes place between Metroid 1 and 2. If you want to catch up on the series, you’ll need a GameCube, Wii, or Wii U to play the Metroid Prime Trilogy compilation.
We still don’t have a confirmed release date for Metroid Prime 4, but Nintendo reaffirms that it’s coming out later this year. The Metroid Prime series is rated T for Teen.
