After first teasing an image of the Fantastic Four, NetEase has released the first trailer for Season 1 of Marvel Rivals. Season 1 will bring Marvel’s first family into the hero shooter. Though judging by the trailer they’ll be battling a surprising foe — Dracula!
Season 1 will begin this Friday, January 10.
Dracula is a part of the Marvel universe as much as anything else, including Hercules and Olympus gods, alien hiveminds, and good old fashioned mutants. Dracula appears in the darker and more monstrous side of Marvel, and typically battles the likes of Blade, Moon Knight, and Elsa Bloodstone.
What role Dracula serves in Season 1 is unknown, but safe to say he won’t be a playable hero. That will fall to the Fantastic Four, iconic heroes from comics and film: Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, The Thing, and Human Torch.
I’m guessing Invisible Woman will be a Strategist, Thing a Vanguard, and Human Torch a Duelist, but Reed Richards could fall into multiple categories depending on how he’s designed. [Update: Mister Fantastic is a Duelist!].
Why the Fantastic Four? Well, the new Marvel Cinematic Universe film, Fantastic Four: First Steps, is coming to theaters later this summer.
Marvel Rivals already has a huge roster of over 30 heroes at launch. Dataminers have found files for many other heroes, including Blade, Captain Marvel, Deadpool, and even the villain Ultron.
NetEase Games has been releasing heroes two at a time at an incredible pace. Even if we only see the Fantastic Four throughout season 1, that’s still a ton of new heroes (with most hero shooters adding one new hero per season).
The theme of Enteral Night Falls should also add new skins, as well as limited-time events. Marvel Rivals recently added two fancy Lunar New Year skins for Moon Knight and Squirrel Girl.
Marvel Rivals is free to play on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. It’s rated T for Teen.
