Nintendo has released The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom on Nintendo Switch ($59.99)— the first main game in the series to feature the titular princess as the primary playable character.

The story begins like many Legend of Zelda adventures. But this time Link is incapacitated after rescuing her, and it’s up to Zelda to do the rescuing! This isn’t just a palette swap, however. Zelda has her own unique abilities thanks to help of new ally Tri and the Tri Rod.

By using the Tri Rod, Zelda can copy creatures and objects, creating echoes that she can deploy to overcome enemies, obstacles, and other challenges — like using a random bed as a bridge. Echoes of monsters can even be summoned to fight other monsters. Zelda can also solve puzzles by binding objects to follow their movement (and vice-versa).

Zelda’s quest is to rescue Link and the entire world of Hyrule from a series of invading rifts, and the Still World they lead to. Later in her adventures, she can create power automatons to defeat her foes, craft smoothies for useful buffs, and discover a magic sword that temporarily transforms her into a Link-style swordfighter.

The top-down, Chibi art style is reminiscent of semi-recent Zelda remake, Link’s Awakening.

The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom is available digitally on the Nintendo eShop, and physically at retail stores. It’s rated E10+.
