You’ll get your first chance to play upcoming hero shooter Concord via the Early Access Beta this weekend, July 12-14. Players can preload starting today.

There’s a pretty big catch to get in: you need to pre-order the game. On the plus side, every pre-order includes four early access codes that players can distribute to friends. And on the other plus side, PlayStation Plus members can get into the Early Access Beta for free!

Pre-ordering in order to play early access to see if you even like the game seems a tad backwards to me. Thankfully, Concord is also hosting a full Open Beta the following weekend, July 18-21.

For both betas, all 16 Freegunners will be unlocked and playable. Nice!

The Early Access beta will include four maps and three game modes. Trophy Hunt is basically team deathmatch. Cargo Run is a mini-extraction mission with no respawns, while Clash Point features a single capture point played over several rounds.

Ope Beta will add a fifth map and a fourth game mode, the familiar Area Control.

By playing the Betas, players can earn the Lil Frog weapon charm, and the Star Flare business card.

Progress made during the Early Access Beta will carry over into the Open Beta weekend. But Beta progress will not carry over into the full game release.

Concord is a competitive, 5v5 hero shooter, similar to Overwatch and Star Wars Hunters. It’s launching August 23 on PC and PlayStation (PSN account required for PC). It’s rated T for Teen.
