Paradox Interactive has proudly announced that 4X turn-based strategy sequel Age of Wonders 4 has already sold over 250,000 copies since its launch on May 2nd.

The fourth game was developed by series veterans Triumph Studios. It blends Civ-like city management and world exploration with RPG heroes, armies, and tactical, hex-grid combat.

For the first time in the series, players can create their own unique custom factions using cultures, traits, and cosmetic features. Factions are further developed by unlocking tomes and researching spells and enchantments, as well as earning empire-wide bonuses.

“There’s always a delicate balancing act involved in designing a sequel, especially for a long-running series with so many dedicated fans,” said Lennart Sas, co-founder and game director, Triumph Studios. “It’s incredible to see what the reception has been from both series veterans and brand-new players. We’re all loving the custom factions our fans are sharing, the clever strategies and guides that are popping up, and the wonderful, kind words we’ve seen in reviews and social media. All of us at Triumph are going to keep supporting Age of Wonders 4 with more content and updates, and we hope you’re ready for it!”

Age of Wonders 4 is available on PC (Steam), PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. The first expansion, Dragon Dawn, is due to release later this summer.
