DotEmu and Tribute Games sneaked in an update over the Christmas break, adding a big free update to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder’s Revenge. The update adds new features and balance changes, including a CRT filter and multiple game-changing options.

By using the new Custom Arcade Mode, players can tweak the gameplay with multiple switches. Toggles include faster enemies, no more taunting, and super attacks draining health instead of ninja power. Note that achievement and progression are disabled in Custom Games.

New improvements include CRT and VCR filter modes (woo!), taunt only filling up the first ninja power bar (dang!), and animation tweaks for bosses, to make them a bit easier to predict (woo!). Various boss balance tweaks were also added, including less frequent rat attacks from Rat King.

TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is a well-built retro beat ’em up that combines old-school gameplay with modern improvements. You can read our review here.

TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is available on PC, PlayStation, Switch, and Xbox. It’s rated E10+, with Fantasy Violence. It’s currently 20% off on Steam, PlayStation, and Switch stores, and included in Game Pass on Xbox.
