The hype continues to build for one of the most exciting Pokémon game we’ve seen in years. The Pokémon Company released a new trailer for open-world RPG Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which includes the announcement of a new Pokémon, Kleavor.

Kleavor is a bug and rock type and known as the Axe Pokémon. It represents a Hisui region variant of Scyther. It also may act as the game’s first boss battle as a “frenzied noble.”

As a surveyor of this wild land, trainers will come across enlarged and glowing Pokémon. These Pokémon will need to be quelled before engaging them in battle, using special balms that have to be aimed and thrown like Poké Balls — while dodging its big attacks.

It looks like you’ll have to periodically engage in turn-based battles to daze them. Then run around in real time hurtling balms, until they eventually become normal-size Pokémon again.

The trailer also revealed several new characters who appear in the story as wardens. Wardens act as guides and protectors to the Pokémon nobles. Their descriptions on the official website tease other Pokémon nobles: Basculegion, Wyrdeer, and “a certain lady Pokémon.” Basculegion and Wyrdeer are unique evolutions of Stantler and Basculin exclusive to this region, and also act as mounts to traverse the world.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus is launching January 28, 2022 on Nintendo Switch. It’s rated E for Everyone.
