Indie animation-turned-gaming studio Ember Lab is launching its debut game Kena: Bridge of Spirits tomorrow, September 21, on PC (Epic Games Store), PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5, for $39.99.
You may recall Kena as the drop-dead gorgeous, Zelda-like adventure-RPG that looks like a feature-length animated movie from a major studio.
Players take on the role of Kena, a spirit guide armed with a magic staff and adorable little companions called Rot. Kena sets off on a journey to restore the balance to her village. She’ll work to cleanse the environment while exploring the world, solving puzzles, and defeating enemies.
The PlayStation 5 version will include exclusive features, including 200 Game Help videos via PlayStation Activities. Fidelity Mode locks in 30fps at 4K resolution to produce a cinematic experience. PC players will enjoy Kena’s DirectX12 support.
Thankfully all versions of the game will include a photo mode. With photo mode you can paus the action and even stage the characters — including dressing the Rot with hats and having them strike a pose. Wonderful!
“We were inspired to make Kena by the films and games we enjoyed together growing up, so we wanted to ensure the game was reflective and cinematic as well as challenging; an experience that would appeal to and be accessible for a broad range of players,” said Josh Grier, co-founder and COO, Ember Labs.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits can still be pre-ordered to unlock exclusive Rot hats on PC and PlayStation. A Deluxe Digital Edition ($49.99) includes the digital soundtrack, and some in-game goodies. The PlayStation editions includes both PS4 and PS5 versions.
Kena: Bridge of Spirits is rated E10+ for Fantasy Violence.
