Fans of the 20+ years old cult classic Pokémon Snap – the wait is over. Nintendo and The Pokémon Company have finally released New Pokémon Snap, a modern sequel to the beloved 1999 picture-taking game, on Switch.

New Pokémon Snap takes place in the new Lental Region, a chain of tropical islands. Your budding wildlife photographer teams up with Professor Mirror and his assistant Rita to photograph all the pokémon in the region, filling out your photodex and providing an ecological survey of the island and its zones. Taking pictures will increase your level for each area, unlocking new islands to explore in your on-rails vehicle, NEO-ONE.

You’ll be judged on every picture you snap and given a star rating between one and four stars based on size, posing, positioning, and the rarity of the Pokémon. In addition to taking pictures with the camera, you can also scan for hiding Pokémon and play music to awaken sleeping Pokémon.

While exploring the islands you can find Fluffruit to throw at Pokémon to entice them to different areas. You can also wield Professor Mirror’s Illumina orbs to trigger special glowing states in Pokémon.

New Pokémon Snap is a single player adventure, but you can edit and share photos online with other players. The Pokémon spin-off game is available exclusively on Nintendo Switch, and rated E for Everyone.
